FO: Yeti

Although Wee Man hasn’t read the Beast Quest book with him as the title character he is very keen on Nanook the Yeti/Abominable Snowman. This is a modification of Choly Knight’s adorable sloth pattern as it was closer to what I had in mind than the Yeti patterns I found. I left of the velcro, added ears, and modified the eyes and mouth. The fun for was not too bad to work with though stitching the neck was not exactly easy but wearing a black dress with white fun fur was not the best plan.

Pattern: Sloth by Choly Knight

Fabric: 2 A4 sheets of blue felt plus scraps of black and white. I purchased half a metre of fun fur, it was super wide so I only used around half.

Notes: modified eyes with white backing, shape from the Night Fury pattern. Skinny nostrils in black. No velcro on hands and feet. Half moon ears – cut four stitch and turn them insert as stitching front and back heads together.

Notions: thread, seeing machine, hand stitching needle, stuffing.

FO: Embroidered brooches and a Twilight Fury

These embroidered brooches are made with self cover buttons. I embroidered all three of them in the same hoop then trimmed at set into the buttons. I ended up with both plastic and metal style ones (by Hemline, 38mm) but much preferred the metal as it was easy to remove the shank (I had to take the big craft knife to the plastic shank) and it felt more solid when they clicked together. I glued brooch backs on with E-6000 and they seem pretty solid. This are going to be Christmas gifts but I would totally do this again in the future as it was fast and effective.

I was looking for something in the fabric bin and became aware of just how much fleece leftovers there were so made the Pixie a dragon to use some of it up. Like the Night Fury and the Light Fury I made previously this used the pattern by Choly Knight. I didn’t do any horns on the face, I did do the spiked ridges but modified the tail fins as per the Light Fury. It has been decided that it is clearly a Twilight Fury and it’s name is Dusky.

FO: Dragons

Pixie has been very interested as I constructed these “baby dragies” and Wee Man and Hobbit have been thrilled by their arrival. I perched them in our front window for them to see when we arrived home from school earlier this week.

The pattern I used was Night Fury by Choly Knight. They are constructed in black and white fleece with various bits of felt for the details. Hobbit instructed me (without knowing why I was asking) that Toothless now has a black tail which meant I didn’t have to fiddle with the skull detail on his red one. I attempted to use bondaweb to attach all the details but didn’t have much luck with getting it well stuck so they are all hand-stitched around the edges to make sure they’ll stay put.

Pattern: Night Fury by Choly Knight

Fabric: about half a metre each of white and black fleece, scraps of grey, black, white, green and blue felt.

Notions: thread, stuffing, bondaweb

Modifications: Toothless is made as written. The Light Fury has no forehead ridge and only 2 head spikes placed at the top position on the sides. The back ridge is cut the same as the pattern but without the spikes – I just cut straight between the tops. The tail is modified by cutting out the pattern pieces (because I forgot I would need to modify it) and then just rounding it off. I top-stitched some ridges into them. Her ears ended up a spaced a bit closer to the top of her head due to the missing head spikes.
