I want to try out a bit more quilting so when I acquired book vouchers I used them to purchase a book on quilting. I bought this one (though it seems to have the cover picture from the French edition). Aside from having instruction for 200 6.5″ square quilt blocks it’s got a good section on matching quilt blocks and picking colours as well as how to work out total fabric required and some sample quilts. One of the sample quilts is based on the star blocks in the book (called the star sample quilt) and is thus rather random in colours. I’ve decided to start making some of the quilt blocks from this quilt and see how I get on. I’ve bought several fat quarters that go together to get started with but the nature of the quilt means I don’t need all the fabric before I get started on the squares. So far I’ve only managed to cut out pieces (rotary cutter = awesome) and haven’t sewn any together. Hopefully soon will have not too wonky squares to show.
